DMS Nr2 Site

A DMS, or Daily Management System, is often deployed to support continuous improvement in operational organizations. What makes it such a powerful method?

A DMS ensures that operational objectives are pursued daily. All layers contribute, in their way, to achieving the central policy objectives that are clearly and visibly translated into targets, results, and actions for the work floor. Leaders are closer to the work floor, and goals are achieved and secured together.

What makes DMS such a successful method?

  • A properly functioning DMS is based on a clear policy deployment. It requires a clear view on all your organizational objectives first – it’s the primary requirement for a successful improvement project.
  • Also, a DMS works both ways: management sets objectives and conveys them clearly to each level of the organization. Thanks to DMS's structural feedback loops, information from the work floor will return to management in an effective and secured way.
  • A DMS prevents pure top-down management. Top-down management is necessary to deploy the big picture; DMS then gives the work floor some autonomy to solve problems independently, with the option to ask for active support from management when it’s needed. This creates more ownership and a more effective work ethic.
  • Employees from the whole organization will be involved in in the different DMS levels, working in small groups. Those levels work together, like gears, to solve issues together. This creates involvement throughout the entire organization.
  • Problems are solved within the team as much as possible. Unsolved issues will be escalated in a structured way, the basic principle being that unsolvable issues eventually end up with management. Management supports what the work floor needs. That makes DMS a form of servant leadership.
  • Leaders are directly involved in the processes, coaching, and employee development. They have a view on unsolved issues and can anticipate solutions by offering employee training and education.

Where will a DMS flourish most?

A DMS is often deployed in operational organizations that use improvement techniques. It promotes the routine and daily communication within organizations. Insight and consolidation are critical players for it, just like with our OEE and Kaizen software.

Cierpa OEE provides all the information on the results achieved and anomalies on the production lines. With the push of a button, these anomalies can be transferred to Cierpa Kaizen, where you get a grip on actions with the well-known PDCA cycle. This way, you have an overview of your actions, and you can secure the end result.
